Simple Aldi Recipes: Spaghetti and Meat Sauce with Homemade Bread: (Cost $1.80) - 3-in-1 Meal (The 15 Minute meal)

Spaghetti and Meat Sauce with homemade bread is a part of my easy 3 in 1 meal, and it often saves me on the busy days, where I come home late and have been walking 5+ miles. Because the meat sauce has already been made, and the dough has already been prepped, it takes me less than fifteen minutes to get a nutritious, fulfilling homemade meal on the table.

Make sure to check the recipe for day 1 for the start of this cheap meal. 

The 3 in 1 Easy Meal

Day 1 - Plenty of time (2 hour cook/prep time)
Pizza Bolognese

Day 2 - 15 minute cook time
Spaghetti and meat sauce with homemade bread

Day 3 - 15 minute cook time
Vegetarian pizza with kitchen leftovers





Homemade bread: 
  1. Take out one of the dough balls from the fridge, add some flour to a kitchen surface and knead out the dough, roll it into one long roll.
  2. In a small bowl mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil with a little paprika, oregano and basil. Brush it on top of the dough roll. 
  3. Put the bread in the oven at 400 degrees F for 10 - 12 minutes.


Spaghetti
  1. Boil water in a large pot
  2. Add salt and 1/2 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
  3. When water is boiling add your spaghetti (cooking time vary from pasta to pasta check the box)
  4. After two minutes use a fork to separate the spaghetti

The Meat Sauce
(Use the leftover meat sauce from the Bolognese Recipe)

Reheat the meat sauce in a pot, add 1/2 - 1 cup of water when reheating.


Once the bread is ready, you can start serving as meat sauce and pasta will be ready as well.

Cost for 3 Meals:
Spices and olive oil from the pantry/garden. ($1.09 for spices at Aldi)
Used vegetable scraps for meat sauce and for veggie pizza.


5 lb flour bought on sale a Target for $1.49. Aldi price $1.49 (Used 1/3) = $0.50
1 dozen eggs at Aldi $0.99 (Used 1) = $0.10
3 Pack yeasts $1.49 at Publix - $0.55 Coupon = $0.94 (Used 1 packet) = $0.31
2 x Small Tomato Sauce at Aldi $0.50
Ground beef at Target on sale at $1.99/lb - Aldi price: $1.99/lb
3 lb onion at bought on sale at Aldi at $0.99 used 1 onion = $0.10
1 box of whole wheat spaghetti at Aldi $0.89
1 bag of shredded mozzarella cheese bought on sale with coupons at Publix $1

Total cost for three meals: $5.39 ($1.80 per meal for a family of 5)
(If you feel as if you need more meat or cheese, it will not add much more to the overall cost of the meal)

  2. I recently found the pasta side dishes (like the lipton Knorr sides) for $0.59 at my aldi. I just tried a lunch recipe that I came up with in college: Use chicken flavor noodles, cook as directed, and add tuna and frozen veggies. I usually put mixed veggies, but i was out so i just did corn. Very tasty! Fed me and both girls for well under $1. I think I had gotten the tuna for free ;)
