Where's The Aldi Savings Linky? Aldi Boycott?

Oh boy.....I skipped Aldi this week! Yep, I voluntarily skipped Aldi shopping, so I am not putting up the Aldi savings linky this week. However, you can link up your grocery savings posts at the Weekly Savings Linky at Frugality Is Free. I have attached the linky below, which means that your link will show up both here and at Frugality Is Free.

So why did I not go to Aldi? We drink A LOT of orange juice in my family, and we used to buy it at Aldi at $1.79 for half a gallon, which was the same as $3.58 for a gallon compared to Publix' $4.99 per gallon. Then Aldi put up their orange juice price to $1.99 = $3.98 per gallon.....and Publix had 1 gallon orange juice on sale at $3.49.

Another place where we usually save money that makes it worth making the drive to Aldi is on eggs and milk, but both products have had price increases at Aldi and our more local stores have had these items on sale. On top of everything else, Publix was kind enough to send me $10 in coupons, which made it cheaper to buy my groceries at Publix than at Aldi. 

I still love Aldi, but I surely hope that Aldi will lure me back in with some great prices next week.....prices that are worth making the trip for.

Aldi Shopping Stocking Up After Vacation - Link Up At The Aldi Savings Linky

My fruitbowl was completely empty, and for the first time in months I could actually see the bottom of the produce drawer. Since I was on family vacation last week, I had not been to Aldi for two weeks and my fridge was definitely showing signs of Aldi withdrawal. This morning, I headed to Aldi early to stock up and my kids were eager to get some fresh fruit in the house again.

My First Experience With Aldi Returns - Easy, Quick and Hassle Free

Today I had my first experience with Aldi returns, as I had to return a previous purchase from my local Aldi Supermarket. I am happy to say that making returns at Aldi is easy, hassle-free and quick. At least this is my experience, and I can of course only speak for my own local South Florida Aldi supermarket.

Two weeks ago I was excited to purchase a new drying rack at Aldi. It was a part of their Special Buys, and I was excited because it was metal and not wood. Unfortunately my excitement soon turned into disappointment, when a piece of the new drying rack broke as I was putting it together.

I brought the box with the drying rack and the receipt with me to my local Aldi supermarket this morning. I simply took the damaged drying rack to an available cashier, and she asked if anything was wrong with the product. Then she called the manager over for approval, and they quickly issued a refund. I had to provide my phone number and sign the receipt, but that was it. The process of Aldi returns took less than 3 minutes, and I could get back to my regular Aldi shopping.

Aldi price Increases: Milk, Eggs and Orange Juice Price Shock!

My family was on vacation last week, so I went to stock up at Aldi today, but I was met with an Aldi price shock. Aldi Milk has increased to $2.49, Aldi eggs has increased to $1.39 (same price as Target), and Aldi orange juice had increased to $1.99. 

All of these products went up $0.10 cents or more in two weeks, which may not sound like much, but when you consider the price increases since January 2011, the picture looks much different.

Aldi Florida Produce Prices Starting Wednesday August 17 - Lots of Fruit

This week Aldi has lots of fruit on sale, and it the low fruit prices surely seem to be worth an Aldi Trip. Check out the new produce prices that Aldi in Florida has this week. Since we were on vacation last week, I am now running very very low on my Aldi staples and my fruit bowl is empty, so I will definitely be picking up both grapes, watermelon, peaches and plums this week.

The night before we went on vacation, I cut up an entire Aldi watermelon, and we put in in a cooler. Our hotel room had a mini fridge, and for the first few days of vacation we were snacking on the perfect Aldi watermelon.

Aldi Recipes: Vegetable Pie Recipe

It has been a while since I have shared an Aldi recipe here at the Aldi Spot, but the other night I had a fantastic dinner, and I just have to share the recipe with all of you. I have not used this vegetable pie recipe (vegetable quiche) in a long time, but since I was able to get cheap feta cheese at Publix last week, I knew I had to make it.

Jamaican Chicken Curry Aldi Recipes - Cheap Recipes Linky

Last week I stocked up on meat at Aldi, and when I got home, I divided all the meat up into individual meals. I also cut up the meat that I needed to use for stews and curries, which makes it so much easier on the actual cooking day. Tonight my family is having Jamaican chicken curry, which is one of my kids favorites. 

Jamaican Chicken Curry Ingredients:

• 1 lb of chicken thighs, cut up and skinned.
• 1 yellow onion chopped
• 2 garlic cloves chopped
• Seasonings - 4 - 6 tablespoons of Jamaican Curry Powder 
• 1 - 2 tablespoons of garlic powder
• 3 tablespoons of all purpose seasonings such as Adobo all purpose.
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (less or more after preference)
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (less or more after preference)
• 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger

(All seasonings are estimates, and they should be adjusted according to yours and your family's taste buds).

Season the chicken and leave for at least 10 min.

I went all out at Aldi this morning, as I bought lots of Aldi meat thanks to a Aldi meat markdown. I also got myself a new drying rack. 

I have been looking for one for ages, and the last wooden one I bought fell apart at the first use. The Aldi drying rack has a steel frame, and I cannot wait to get it set

Aldi Meat Prices: Aldi Meat Markdowns - $1 - $4 Off Select Meats

Aldi meat prices are not the best around, but today I spotted some Aldi meat markdowns and this surely made the price very competitive. Before I went to Aldi I checked Publix to see the price of their meat, as my freezer was completely meatless. I knew Aldi could beat the prices I saw, and I am very happy that I waited to buy the meat until I got to Aldi.

The Ground Beef had $4 off Markdown Stickers

The Skinless Boneless Chicken Breast had $1 Markdown Stickers

I made sure to pick a pack up off each, and after the discount the ground beef $1.61/lb and the boneless skinless chicken breast $2.06/lb. 

The Aldi meat markdowns vary from store to store, but you should always keep your eye out for the stickers featured above. There was nothing wrong with the quality of any of the meat, in fact it seemed to be in perfect condition. I had everything out to rinse and separate for individual dinners, so I inspected everything I bought today.

Aldi Recipes: Banana Bread Pudding with A Chocolate Twist

After a morning beach trip I came home to discover some overripe bananas from Aldi, so I started thinking up a special after-beach trip dessert for my boys. I decided to mix the bananas with some free Italian bread that I had gotten at Publix last week. My family has gotten so used to eating whole wheat bread, that the Italian bread simply was not eaten - despite it being free. I decided to combine the two into an easy banana bread pudding with a chocolate twist.
