I usually make a big shopping trip to Aldi and Target on Thursdays, but this week is a short school week for my boys, so I had to go shopping today.
I had originally intended on making it a day trip on the bus with my youngest son, where we go to the playground and have a lot of fun in between shopping. However, yesterday after our long morning walk and picking up the big boys, I somehow made a wrong movement and twisted my arm the wrong way. I am so thankful it did not happen until we got home, because it sure hurt and least I had no more kids to pick up or errands to run. I hardly slept last night due to the pain, and while I can still use my arm and hand, my arm and back hurts big time, if I make a wrong movement.
So....I asked my husband if he would give us a ride, and thankfully he agreed. This meant that I just ran in and grabbed what I needed at Aldi, and then we headed back home again.
My Aldi Shopping Trip
Tyson Split Chicken Breast $0.89/lb $2.88
Tyson Split Chicken Breast $0.89/lb $2.89

2.69 lbs bananas $0.75
2 lbs Aldi carrots $0.69
2 lbs Aldi carrots $0.69
3 lbs Aldi yellow onions $0.79
8 oz Baby Bella Mushrooms $0.79
Cucumber $0.55
Strawberries $1.99
Large eggs $1.39
Whole Wheat Bread $1.39
Instant Oatmeal $1.39
Total out of pocket $29.18
Total saved $14
Savings are calculated compared to the lowest price at my regular grocery stores. Take a look at the Aldi price list and price comparison list with Publix, Target, Winn-Dixie and Walmart.
By the way the strawberries were supposed to be $1.49, so make sure that your strawberries ring up properly. They were not sweet though, so I would not recommend the Aldi strawberries we got this week.
I would love to hear how you did on your grocery shopping this week. You can link up below, and you can also link up at the Weekly Savings Linky at Frugality Is Free, where I post all of my shopping for the week.
I hope your arm feels better! I understand having pain like that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carlye, it actually feels a bit better this morning, so I am hoping that it will soon be back to normal. It is not easy to manage three kids, a household and work from home with one arm:)
DeleteYour welcome. When I hurt my elbow/forearm the doctor told me that I needed to not pick up the girls very often. That was kind of funny to me because I am a stay at home mom. But my friend who is a athletic trainer said if I slept with a brace on it would help so much because it would heal while I was sleeping.
DeleteCarlye, I hope it healed quick, because when you have little ones and you are the only one there, there's just not much you can do.
DeleteI stopped my usual exercise routine for a few days, and then I tried to sleep with my hand in a way where it could rest. I am very relieved, because I just came home from the playground, Publix and a six mile long walk/run and I did not feel any more pain. I consider myself very lucky!
We are getting new tennis rackets for the entire family this morning, and I was so upset that I would have to miss out on all the fun.
I hope you feel better I did the same to my neck and back and it has been about 12 weeks and I can't seem to get it totally mended I get better and then I do something else again and I am back to mending it all over again.
DeleteThank you Anonymous! I think I am very lucky, because I am already feeling a lot better.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about your neck and your back. It is a lot harder to rest your neck and back than one arm, but I hope you are able to rest it somehow, so that you too can get better.
I stopped at Aldis after work today also but I didnt get a picture of what all I got before I put it away.
ReplyDeleteI got a loaf of bread, two bags of salad, a pack of american cheese, a pack of cucumbers and a meatloaf meal that was marked down from $4.99 to 2.99..
What a great deal on the meatloaf meal Kristin. Did your store have $0.25 cucumbers? I know some of the stores had them this low this week.
DeleteI'm glad you're feeling better this morning JR! My back's been killing me, too! Old car accident injury that flares up everytime there's a toddler around here! ;) Trying to find time to fit some yoga into my schedule so I can try to avoid the doc and the big needles in my spine for a third time. =/ I didn't get to Aldi this week...i just had the hubby run in for milk, but I wish I had thought to ask him to check for those cucumbers! He loves them!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your back Amanda, it is definitely not fun to have back aches and little ones. I got whiplash from playing soccer years ago, but as long as I am careful with my movements it does usually hurt me....if it does I get migraine headaches so bad I get sick to my stomach. The worst part is probably, that running usually triggers it.
DeleteI just played tennis with the kids today though, and it seems my arm is back to normal.
My husband and I went out Friday night and used a Groupon to go skating....now my whole body is sore LOL. We should know better!
DeleteAmanda that sounds like a blast! Rollerskating or ice skating?
DeleteGreat job and glad to hear your arm is doing better. This is my week off from shopping, but I think I may head to Aldi to pick up some produce. I know I will need them since I already have my meals planned through February and I can always prep them and freeze them. Such great deals this week!
ReplyDeleteA week off from shopping? Oh my, I don't think I could do it Erika:)
DeleteI think this week is the best week of produce deals that I have seen at Aldi in a long long time.

ReplyDelete$.89/lb is a really great price for those split chicken breasts. I usually don't find them lower than $.99/lb. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up at The Peaceful Mom!
